E-Brake Modification Adapter

This was one of my favorite mods. It's pretty simple and you only need one part and one special tool. What I did first was remove the adjustable brake bracket from under the Jeep. Original e-brake bracketThe only modification I did to this was cut out the swivel portion to make the length of it shorter. The key to this is making it shorter. You can probably do this a couple ways. I chose the simple route and made two cuts. One to get the single end cup free and one to remove the swivel from the adjustable bolt. Then I took those two pieces and welded them together.e-brake bracket modifiedNext you need to re-install the two stock Ford explorer e-brake cables from the brakes to the cable mount under the jeep. The Explorer cable ends should snap into the original Jeep mount as designed. The next mod is important. You'll notice the two cable ends coming from the Ford 8.8 rear extend from the cable housing at different lengths. These lengths need to match. I cut one cable shorter and then attached a new 1/8" ferrule stop. The ferrule stop is a one time use. You can probably find them at a local hardware store. You also need the ferrule tool to clamp the stop to the cable.modified e-bracket bracket jeepLessons Learned

  • Make sure when you get your axle from the junkyard you ask them to save the ebrake cables too.
  • Don't cut the cable end too short. You only have about 3/4" of wiggle room in the bracket vs. cable lengths.
  • 1/8" ferrule and clean off the plastic sheath from the cable end.
