Finalized Brakes

This is an interesting topic because it's important and involves the swapped axles, the hydroboost system from the 4bt and some of the original jeep brake components. I decided to use the original proportioning valve from the Jeep. I ran a new line to the rear brakes and reused the front brake lines. I decide to replace the soft hose (I bought the original TJ line) that connected the hard lines from the frame to the axle. I also replaced the soft lines on the ford 8.8 rear calipers with a kit from Advanced Adapters that includes the brake tabs so you can put your line wherever you want on the axle. This was exciting progress because the TJ now has upgraded 4 wheel disc brakes. The braking system on this jeep will be very strong, combining the larger 4 wheel discs and hydro-boost.  I custom made the rear axle hard lines with a double flare tool, this is pretty tough and requires a little patience. It is possible but it's a pain.  I found all my replacement fittings and lines at Autozone.Lessons Learned

  • Don't bother flaring your own lines. Measure the lengths you'll need and just buy the pre-made lines at the parts store.  It'll save you time, and brake fluid.
  • Flaring lines manually is a pain in the ass.
  • It's easier to replace old parts with new, versus trying to re-use them. Especially brake components.
  • In order to not strip your bleeder screws you have to use a box end wrench.
