Killer Dowel Pin Secure

This is a pretty common topic among Cummins B series owners.  There is a dowel pin that is used during the manufacturing process to align the timing case to the engine block. This pin is known to work itself out of the hole in the older 4bt's fall into the timing gears and destroy the motor. There are a few vendors that sell kits to prevent this that usually include a gasket, seal, and the tab to secure the pin.I chose to reuse my gasket and seal and make my own tab. I'll let you know if the seal and gasket hold up to the reuse. If you have the motor out you can complete this fix in about 30 min. It's super simple.I'm not gonna go to far into detail because this topic is covered  in detail all over the internet. Just Google "killer dowel pin" you'll find all the info you'll need.  Here's a pic of the non-secure pin, secure pin and the open timing case.Killer dowel pin - unsecureKiller dowel pin - secure4bt timing gears
